We the People Theatre was founded in 2017 shortly after the 2016 election of Donald Trump. The inspiration for the company was to try and help our community bridge the divide that so many people were experiencing at that time. It was a very divisive time and we hoped that the story of our Founders and their drafting of the Declaration of Independence would serve to inspire us to come together in constructive ways. How ironic that eight years later we are back in another time of division and animus. This years production tackles another important topic which is the importance of seeing people as they truly are and honoring their unique choices about who they love. While there are those who are demonizing diversity, we are celebrating it.
As the play says- you just have to love who you love. A Man of No Importance is a stirring, poignant story of claiming your own identity and the power of community. You’re not going to want to miss it.
