Here's What I Want to Remember
The bittersweet ending of a big project. As we near the end of another production from my small but mighty theatre company, here is what I want to remember. I want to remember the joy of watching my actors come together as an ensemble, the miracle of opening up to their characters, the discovery that comes with finding a moment, a gesture, or a sentence that brings a scene to life. I want to remember the faces of the audience as they experience this beautiful story, the tear

A Simple Thank You Means So Much
Last night at the theatre, I had the pleasure of chatting with a number of our patrons. Few people realize what really goes into mounting a production like ours. As I have written before, there are a million details and moving pieces. It truly is a labor of love. But when I stand on the porch and see the impact of our work, it is deeply gratifying. One couple, clearly well traveled and frequent patrons of theaters around the region, kept thanking me. “Thank you for bringing u

There's a lot of Talent in the World
C Cast of Something Rotten from 2024. See anyone you recognize? After one of our shows this past weekend, someone standing on the porch turned to me and asked, “Where do you find these people?” They were talking about the extraordinary talent on stage—the consistently strong voices, the grounded, honest acting, the kind of presence that makes you lean in a little closer. It’s a question I get a lot. My answer is always the same: there’s a lot of talent in the wo

Performing in a Smaller Space
By Steve Leblanc, Actor The previous two We the People shows (Something Rotten and A Man of No Importance) were produced at the Briggs Opera House in White River Junction. While “The Briggs” isn’t huge, its larger size is typical for a musical theater venue. As performers we had to be mindful of every audience member, including those in the back row. All spoken lines, gestures, and expressions had to be big enough for all to see. For this year’s show (The Spitfire Grill) We t

Changing Venues
Changing venues for your theatre company is a lot like moving. After mounting five shows at the Briggs Opera House, this year, for this production, we’ve packed up and settled into a new home: the Eclipse Grange Theater on Thetford Hill, home to the Parish Players. Many of our actors and crew already know the space well, having performed there or worked backstage on other productions. But for We the People Theatre, this is a first. If you’ve been lucky enough to avoid moving

A Walk Down Memory Lane
Last night, We the People Theatre was invited to share a video of our very first production— 1776 . The screening was part of the 250th celebration of our country, and it brought together a number of our original actors, along with our costumer, to revisit where it all began. The sound quality wasn’t perfect, but considering this was a homegrown effort—created with the help of several Dartmouth student videographers—we were proud of what we saw on the screen. More importantly

Finding Our People
At We the People Theatre, we often talk about why we do this work. Recently, I wrote a reflection about finding my people in the theatre — and why that sense of belonging is at the heart of everything we create. I’m sharing it here because it speaks directly to who we are as a company. Richard Waterhouse with the ensemble in A Man of No Importance When Harrison Ford recently accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award, he spoke about empathy, imagination, and the privilege of sto

Off We Go
After holding auditions last weekend, we are now on our way to producing The Spitfire Grill. We had a great turnout for auditions and had a number of new actors come out. Unfortunately, this show has a smaller cast so we were unable to use all of the talent that auditioned. But we welcome everyone to find a way to be part of the effort. As we have done before, we will be doing some community engagement and finding new ways to bring this lovely story to life. We are also v
